About Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz
The hotel Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz occupies a 41-floor skyscraper on the northeast side of Alexanderplatz in Berlin's Mitte district. At 125 m (410 ft), it is Berlin's second tallest building and Germany's tallest hotel-only building. Construction ran from 1967 to 1970 during the redevelopment of Alexanderplatz, when the area lay in East Berlin.
The design came from Roland Korn and Heinz Scharlipp, working with Hans Erich Bogatzky. The hotel opened under the name Hotel Stadt Berlin and belonged to East Germany's Interhotel chain. A panoramic restaurant occupied the 37th floor, and the elevators were unusually fast for the period. After German reunification it was refurbished in 1993 and renamed Forum Hotel Berlin; in 2003 it became Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz and later Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz.
The building has a public viewing platform on its roof. In October 2006 two 35 m (115 ft) antenna masts were added, bringing its total height to 149.5 m (490 ft). A three-story commercial building forms the base of the tower, and the hotel rooms were refurbished starting in 2001.
