About the Smith Center for the Performing Arts

Smith Center for the Performing Arts stands in Symphony Park, part of Downtown Las Vegas in Nevada, and covers 5 acres (2.0 ha). Its three theaters are split between two buildings, and its look follows a Neo Art Deco design. David M. Schwarz picked that style to echo the Hoover Dam, some 48 km (30 miles) southeast. Some design features also appear at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, which is in Fort Worth, Texas.

Before it opened, Las Vegas was among the largest US cities without a performing arts center. Plans began around 1994, and in 2005 the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation gave $150 million, the second largest gift to the performing arts in the history of the United States. The center is named for Fred and Mary Smith, its largest benefactors, and the City of Las Vegas chose Symphony Park, a downtown district it began planning around 2000, as the site. Work started on May 26, 2009, on a $470 million complex that opened on March 10, 2012.

The venues are the 2,050-seat Reynolds Hall, with seating on 5 levels, the 240-seat Myron's Cabaret Jazz, and the 250-seat Troesh Studio Theater. A 17-story carillon tower with 47 bells stands at the corner. It also leads the nation as the first performing arts center with Gold LEED certification, and Nevada Ballet Theatre and the Las Vegas Philharmonic call it home.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Slim corner tower
A tall, narrow tower with a stepped top rises at one corner. Print friendly adapts its thin top to the print scale; Full detail keeps it on larger prints. Print slowly with good cooling.
Ridged roofs and window bays
Ridged roofs sit behind the main facade, which has tall window bays. A layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm keeps these lines crisp, and a bigger print size keeps them distinct.
One piece with the ground
The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Smith Center for the Performing Arts takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
