About St. Barbara's Church, Kutná Hora
Saint Barbara's Church stands in Kutná Hora, in Bohemia. This Roman Catholic church is built like a cathedral and is sometimes called the Cathedral of St Barbara. It counts among central Europe's best-known Gothic churches and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Miners have Barbara, among others, as their patron saint, which suited a town whose wealth rested entirely on its silver mines. The church stands behind the Jesuit College, outside the Old Town district, on ground that once lay beyond the town.
Building began in 1388 but was interrupted several times, so the church was not finished until 1905. Johann Parler, son of Peter Parler, was probably the first architect. Work paused for over 60 years in the period of the Hussite Wars, and Mikuláš Parler, Matěj Rejsek and Benedikt Rejt took responsibility when it resumed in 1481. The first design envisioned a church much larger than the present one, perhaps twice as big, but the town's silver mines became much less productive. By 1588 the three-peaked roof was complete and a provisional wall had been built.
Jesuits, who took over the church a little later, slowly turned the structure Baroque in style, although some Gothic parts remain. The church was finally repaired and completed toward the end of the 19th century by architects J. Mocker and L. Labler. It originally had eight chapels arranged radially, with trapezoid-shaped interiors, and the choir, built later, is supported by flying buttresses with double arches. Medieval frescoes showing secular scenes from the mining town, as well as religious themes, are partly preserved.
How it prints

- Slender spires and pinnacles
- The three peaked roofs end in slim spires, with many small pinnacles around them. Print slowly with good cooling, and use 0.12–0.16 mm layers to keep the points crisp.
- Thin flying buttresses
- Slim curved buttresses wrap around the eastern end. A larger print size keeps them sturdier; Print friendly adapts the thinnest to the print scale, while Full detail keeps all of them.
- One piece with the ground
- St. Barbara's Church, Kutná Hora is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. St. Barbara's Church, Kutná Hora takes the building color.
- File format
