About Swaminarayan Akshardham (Gandhinagar)
Swaminarayan Akshardham is a large Hindu temple complex in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. In the BAPS denomination of Swaminarayan Hinduism, Yogiji Maharaj (1892–1971) was Swaminarayan's fourth spiritual successor, and Pramukh Swami Maharaj (1921–2016) was the fifth. Yogiji Maharaj inspired the complex, and Pramukh Swami Maharaj created it. It took 13 years to build and is a tribute to Swaminarayan, his life and his teachings. The 23-acre complex is centered on the Akshardham temple, for which Rajasthan supplied pink sandstone, 6,000 metric tons of it.
The Akshardham temple measures 108 feet in height, 131 feet in width and 240 feet in length. Its features include 264 sculpted figures, 220 stone beams, 97 carved pillars, 17 domes and 8 balconies. No steel or iron was used anywhere in it, in keeping with Vedic architectural principles. Stone beams 20 feet long, each weighing five tons, carry the load throughout. A gold-leafed murti of Swaminarayan, seven feet tall, stands in the central chamber; followers worship Swaminarayan as God.
Pramukh Swami laid the foundation stone on December 14, 1979, and the foundation work was finished in 1981. The temple architect Chandrakant Sompura designed the temple. The structure was completed in 1985, and the complex was inaugurated on November 4, 1992. Five exhibition halls explore themes in Hinduism through dioramas and audio-visual presentations. Sahajanand Van, a 15-acre garden with rock arrangements, fountains and a waterfall, also holds an open-air assembly ground that seats 9,000.
How it prints

- Small domes with fine finials
- Many small domes and pavilions, each with a fine tip, sit around the stepped roof. Print friendly adapts those tips to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print. Printing slowly keeps tips clean.
- Slim columns and carved fronts
- Slim columns hold up the porches, and the walls carry arches and carved detail. A layer height of 0.12 to 0.16 mm and a bigger print size keep these features crisp.
- One piece with the ground
- Swaminarayan Akshardham (Gandhinagar) is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Swaminarayan Akshardham (Gandhinagar) takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
