About the The Dominick

Formerly the Trump SoHo, The Dominick is a 46-story hotel condominium with 391 units, at 246 Spring Street on the corner of Varick Street in Manhattan's Hudson Square. The project cost $450 million. It was announced in 2006, finished in 2008 and given its new name in 2017, and the hotel belongs to the Legend Collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts.

Zoning in the area is for manufacturing, which rules out permanent homes. Talks with Michael Bloomberg, then the city's mayor, led to approval of the condo-hotel design. Each of the 391 units is privately owned, but no stay by the same person may exceed 120 days a year, nor 29 days within any 36-day span. A unit may be rented as a hotel suite when its owner is away. A seasonal outdoor pool deck with a bocci court is among the amenities, and on the same level are an 11,000-square-foot (1,000 m2) spa and fitness facilities.

Handel Architects, a firm based in New York, served as design architects for the building, while David Rockwell of the Rockwell Group handled the interiors. On the 46th floor, an event space called "SoHi" offers views of the New York skyline, and the hotel has a restaurant and a cocktail lounge as well.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 38 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 47 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 60 mm 1:2,344

Tall and slim, with a busy top
The tower is thin for its height and ends in a flat top with small structures. Print slowly with layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm, and use Full detail on a larger print to keep the top crisp.
One piece with the ground
The The Dominick is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The The Dominick takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

The The Dominick is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a The Dominick STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The The Dominick grows with the print: about 38 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
