About the Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum, in Amsterdam South, is a Dutch art museum devoted to Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries. It sits close to the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Concertgebouw. It opened on June 2, 1973, and Gerrit Rietveld and Kisho Kurokawa designed its buildings. It has the world's largest Van Gogh collection, with 200 of his paintings, 400 drawings and 700 of his letters.

The Dutch government asked Gerrit Rietveld, an architect and furniture designer, for a design in 1963. He died the next year, and the museum was only finished and opened in 1973. Martien van Goor renovated the building in 1998 and 1999, when an exhibition wing by Kisho Kurokawa was added. The Rietveld building, the main structure, is four stories high with a rectangular plan, and the permanent collection is on show there. The Kurokawa wing hosts major temporary exhibitions. Its plan is oval, it has three stories, and visitors enter it through a tunnel from the Rietveld building.

The selected works on show include The Potato Eaters (1885), Bedroom in Arles (1888), Sunflowers (1889), The Yellow House (1888) and Wheatfield with Crows (1890). Nine of Van Gogh's self-portraits are part of the permanent collection too. On the first floor, his works are grouped chronologically; the third floor shows paintings by his contemporaries in relation to his own work.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Gridded roof panels
The stepped roof of the main building and the roof of the oval wing carry small grid-like panels. Print friendly adapts these small details; a larger print or Full detail keeps more of them.
Oval wing with a thin rim
The oval wing has a flat roof with a thin edge. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the curved outline smooth.
One piece with the ground
The Van Gogh Museum is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Van Gogh Museum takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Van Gogh Museum STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The Van Gogh Museum grows with the print: about 6 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
