About the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism Building
Arizona State University has 24 independent schools, and one of them, named in honor of the veteran broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite, is his School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Its home is on the downtown Phoenix campus, in a building that it moved into in August 2008. The school received independent status in 2004, and at that point plans began to relocate it to the new downtown campus.
Ground was broken in early 2007, and construction finished in mid-2008. The school dedicated the new building in November 2008. HDR, Inc. designed it and Sundt Construction built it. Work was delivered as a fast-track design-build project, with design starting in October 2006 and the doors opening just 22 months later. The building has six stories, stands 110 feet (34 m) tall, is rated LEED Silver, and cost $71 million.
The building also houses the studio of the PBS member station KAET. The nightly student news program, Cronkite News, broadcasts from a studio on the sixth floor, which has a set, a control room, a newsroom and a terrace outside for live reports. In 2010 the building won an International Architecture Award.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

- Fine louvers and slats
- Many thin horizontal slats cover the walls and roof. Print friendly adapts these fine lines to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on larger prints, and 0.12–0.16 mm layers keep them crisp.
- Small rooftop figures
- Tiny shapes stand on the roof terrace. A larger print size keeps them from blurring into the roof.
- One piece with the ground
- The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism Building is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism Building takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
