About 185 Montague Street
Its other name is the National Title Guaranty Company Building, and 185 Montague Street is a commercial building in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn. Harvey Wiley Corbett and Wallace Harrison designed the 16-story Art Deco building, which was constructed between 1929 and 1930. The William Kennedy Construction Company built it as one of the "Bank Row" bank buildings along Montague Street.
The facade is brick and limestone. A limestone screen with panels by Rene Paul Chambellan decorates the first two stories, and brick piers divide the upper stories vertically, with ornamental brick panels between the windows. The building steps back above the 12th story, following the 1916 Zoning Resolution.
National Title Guaranty was established in 1924 at 172–174 Montague Street, then bought the two lots, 185 and 187 Montague, in early 1929. The building officially opened on April 3, 1930. The company was liquidated in 1935, and New York City designated the building a landmark in 2017.
