About 8 Spruce Street

The residential skyscraper at 8 Spruce Street stands in the Financial District of Manhattan, New York City. Beekman Tower was an earlier name, and so was New York by Gehry. Frank Gehry and Gehry Partners LLP designed it, and Forest City Realty Trust developed it. It rises 265.2 m (870 ft) across 76 stories.

When it opened in February 2011, no residential tower in the Western Hemisphere was taller. A six-story brick podium holds a public school, medical offices and amenities for residents. Above it rises a T-shaped tower clad in brushed stainless steel, with setbacks that create terraces at floors 7, 24, 40 and 52.

A wavy steel facade curves around three sides of the building, and the south side is flat. Japan supplied roughly 10,500 stainless steel panels made to order, of which only around 2,000 are identical. The windows are rectangular, but each varies in width to follow the changing outline, which produces many bay windows. The upper stories hold 899 apartments.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Rippled steel facade
The undulating facade and the stepped setbacks are fine surface detail on a tall, narrow tower. Larger prints and 0.12-0.16 mm layers keep the ripples visible.
Tall narrow tower
The tower is slender for its height, so printing slowly and keeping cooling steady helps the upper stories stay clean.
One piece with the ground
8 Spruce Street is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. 8 Spruce Street takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there an 8 Spruce Street STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. 8 Spruce Street grows with the print: about 73 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
