4 mm tall on a 160 mm print
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Front fire escapes
Zigzag fire escapes and rows of small window frames cover the front. A layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm and a bigger print size keep them readable.
- Window frames and roof edge
Print friendly adapts the window frames and the stepped roof edge to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on a larger print.
- One piece with the ground
Alku and Alku Toinen is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Alku and Alku Toinen takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About Alku and Alku Toinen
Alku and Alku Toinen are two apartment buildings on 43rd Street, numbers 816–826, in Brooklyn's Sunset Park. The Finnish American immigrant community put them up in 1916, and they were New York City's first nonprofit housing cooperatives. The names translate as "Beginning" and "Beginning Second". Eric O. Holmgren designed the apartments in the Arts and Crafts style, with brick exteriors.
In 1916, sixteen Finnish and Scandinavian American families began pooling their money to build in the cooperative style used in Finland. Members wrote a constitution, bylaws and five principles, including democratic control and a nonprofit structure. They paid $500 up front and a monthly fee of $25 to $33, while average rents in the area then were $75 to $85. Each apartment has five rooms.
Finntown was an enclave of Finnish immigrants in the north of Sunset Park, with up to 10,000 Finnish residents and its own Finnish language newspaper. By 1922 the Finns had built twenty co-ops there, and by 1947 the neighborhood had 50 cooperatives. The National Register of Historic Places added the buildings on May 20, 2019.
