8 mm tall on a 160 mm print
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Fine facade detail on the west
The street front has arched windows and a decorated cornice with small urns along the parapet. Print friendly adapts these small details to the print scale; Full detail keeps them for larger prints.
- A wide, low block
The building is broad and low with a flat roof, hemmed in by taller neighbors. A bigger print size and 0.12–0.16 mm layers help keep the arched windows readable.
- One piece with the ground
The Astor Library Building is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Astor Library Building takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About the Astor Library Building
The Astor Library Building, also called the Public Theater Building and the Joseph Papp Public Theater, stands at 425 Lafayette Street in Manhattan's NoHo neighborhood. William B. Astor commissioned it, and his father John Jacob Astor founded the library. Construction proceeded in three phases from 1854 to 1881, and since 1967 the Public Theater has been its tenant. New York City designated it a landmark in 1965, among the first properties to receive that designation, and the National Register of Historic Places has it on its list too.
German-born architect Alexander Saeltzer designed the southern pavilion, the original building. Griffith Thomas added the center pavilion in 1856–1859, and Thomas Stent the north pavilion in 1880–1881, both following Saeltzer's design. The building is brick and stone and mostly three stories tall, except for a four-story central section. The ground floor is rusticated brownstone, and a parapet topped by urns runs above the roof. Contemporary sources called it Byzantine, while later writers have also described it as Italianate, Venetian, Florentine, Romanesque Revival, Rundbogenstil or German Renaissance.
Limited use of the original portion began on January 9, 1854, and general use followed on February 1, 1854. The Astor Library was later absorbed into the New York Public Library, which left the building in 1911. The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society bought it in 1920. By 1965 it was empty and faced demolition, until the Public Theater persuaded the city to buy it. Giorgio Cavaglieri converted it, and it reopened in October 1967. It holds six stages for the Public Theater and was renovated in the early 2010s.
