About Buda Castle

Buda Castle, known in Hungarian as Budavári Palota, was formerly also called the Royal Palace and the Royal Castle. The complex served as the castle and palace of the Hungarian kings in Budapest, and its first version was finished in 1265. The Baroque palace covering most of the site went up between 1749 and 1769. It was badly damaged in World War II's Siege of Budapest, then rebuilt in a simplified Baroque form in the state communist period. The National Széchényi Library, the Budapest Historical Museum and the Hungarian National Gallery are all housed there.

The complex occupies the southern tip of Castle Hill (Várhegy). Defensive walls reach out to enclose the whole Castle Quarter neighborhood to the north, known for medieval, Baroque and neoclassical buildings, including houses and churches. The Castle Hill Funicular connects the hill with the Széchenyi Chain Bridge and Clark Ádám Square. UNESCO declared the part of Budapest that includes the Castle Quarter a World Heritage Site in 1987. Locally, the neighborhood and the palace together are called a Vár, meaning the Castle.

King Béla IV built the first royal residence on Castle Hill between 1247 and 1265. King Sigismund later enlarged and fortified the palace, and it was probably the biggest Gothic palace in the late Middle Ages. In 1476 Matthias Corvinus married Beatrice of Naples, and Italian humanists, artists and craftsmen came to Buda; the king then reworked the palace in early Renaissance style. Allied Christian forces captured Buda in the great siege of 1686, and the medieval palace was destroyed.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 800 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 21 mm 1:5,000
200 mm 26 mm 1:4,000
256 mm 33 mm 1:3,125

Central dome and pediments
A small ribbed dome rises at the center, and triangular pediments mark the facades. Print friendly adapts these details to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print with 0.12–0.16 mm layers.
Long wings with small windows
The wings stretch along the hilltop and carry rows of small windows. A larger print size keeps those rows legible.
One piece with the ground
Buda Castle is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Buda Castle takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Buda Castle is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a Buda Castle STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Buda Castle grows with the print: about 21 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
