About Fisherman's Bastion

Fisherman's Bastion, also known as the Halászbástya, ranks among Budapest's best known historical monuments. It stands near Buda Castle in the Várkerület, the Buda Castle District, and has carried UNESCO World Heritage status since 1987 as part of that district. Its lookout terraces, in Neo-Romanesque style, offer a unique panorama over the city. Its seven steep stone towers stand for the seven Hungarian chieftains who founded Hungary in 895.

The first walls date from the 1700s and formed part of a castle's defenses. Historians generally agree that the guild of fishermen (halász) protected this part of the castle wall in the Middle Ages; its members lived below the walls in an area called Fishtown or Watertown. Architect Frigyes Schulek built the existing structure in Neo-Romanesque style, resting on the base of a length of the Buda Castle walls. Its main facade runs parallel to the Danube and is approximately 140 m long, with a southern aisle of about 40 m, a north section of 65 m and an ornate central parapet of 35 m.

World War II sieges caused severe damage to the Bastion. Because it was one of Budapest's important landmarks, it held a prominent place in the postwar restoration priorities. László Bors, a state-appointed architect, led the restoration work, which was completed in 1953. Before the damage could be assessed and restoration plans completed, firefighters had to go over the whole area centimeter by centimeter.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 13 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 16 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 20 mm 1:2,344

Sharp cone roofs on the towers
The towers end in steep conical roofs with fine tips. Print friendly adapts these small points to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on larger prints, and printing slowly with cooling helps the tips.
Rows of small arches
Arcades of small arches line the terraces between the towers. A larger print keeps the openings readable, and 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers keep the edges crisp.
One piece with the ground
Fisherman's Bastion is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Fisherman's Bastion takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Fisherman's Bastion STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Fisherman's Bastion grows with the print: about 13 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
