About Desert Sky Mall

Desert Sky Mall, originally called Westridge Mall, is a regional shopping mall at 75th Avenue and Thomas Road in west Phoenix, Arizona. Construction started in late 1979, and the mall opened in March 1981. Westcor developed it just after completing Paradise Valley Mall in northeast Phoenix, and the designer was Rafique Islam of Architectonics Inc.

At the start there were three anchor stores: Sears in the west space, Diamond's in the middle and JCPenney in the east. JCPenney and Sears opened in January 1981, and Diamond's followed a year later. An expansion in 1993 brought two more anchors, Mervyn's and Montgomery Ward, along with 16,300 m2 (175,000 square feet) of space. The original mall was renovated then too, gaining new flooring, new windows in the food court and a parking lot sculpture.

Westcor first owned the mall, and in 2002 it joined the portfolio of The Macerich Company. Suburbs including Avondale, Goodyear and Tolleson lie nearby in the southwest valley, and the mall serves them. Valley Metro Bus also uses it as a transit center. The 1993 expansion and renovation work finished in October 1993.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 1350 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 2 mm 1:8,438
200 mm 2 mm 1:6,750
256 mm 3 mm 1:5,273

A very low, wide footprint
The mall is a flat, branching building surrounded by many parking lines. A larger print size keeps the outline and roof details clearer.
One piece with the ground
Desert Sky Mall is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Desert Sky Mall takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Desert Sky Mall is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a Desert Sky Mall STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Desert Sky Mall grows with the print: about 2 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
