About Florence Cathedral
Florence Cathedral, known in Italian as the Duomo di Firenze and formally as Santa Maria del Fiore, is the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Florence, Italy. Arnolfo di Cambio designed it, and construction started in 1296 in the Gothic style. Filippo Brunelleschi engineered the dome that completed the building by 1436. Polychrome marble panels in shades of green and pink, alternated with white, face the exterior, and the elaborate western façade, a 19th-century Gothic Revival work, is by Emilio De Fabris.
In Piazza del Duomo, the cathedral stands with Giotto's Campanile and the Florence Baptistery, and together the three belong to the UNESCO World Heritage Site that covers Florence's historic center. Among the largest churches anywhere, the basilica also has what remains the biggest masonry dome ever built. The dome rises 114.5 m (375.7 ft), and the building is 153 m (502 ft) long and 38 m (125 ft) wide, widening to 90 m (300 ft) at the crossing.
The city council approved Arnolfo's design in 1294, and building slowed for almost 50 years after he died in 1302. Giotto took over the work in 1334 and began the campanile. A design competition for the dome was announced on August 19, 1418, and Brunelleschi won it. The dome was erected between 1420 and 1436, the first octagonal dome in history built without any temporary wooden framework to hold it up, and Pope Eugene IV consecrated the cathedral on March 25, 1436. The façade was not installed until 1887.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

- Ribbed dome and lantern
- The ribs of the dome and the small lantern on top are the finest details. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the ribs and the tip crisp; Print friendly adapts the lantern to the print scale.
- Decorated west front and apse chapels
- The west front carries fine surface decoration, and the apse is ringed by small domed chapels. A larger print size keeps those details readable, and Full detail keeps them for a fine nozzle.
- One piece with the ground
- Florence Cathedral is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Florence Cathedral takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About this model
Florence Cathedral is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Common questions
Is there a Florence Cathedral STL I can download?
Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.
How big can I print it?
Any print size from 40 mm across. Florence Cathedral grows with the print: about 31 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
Is it free?
Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
