About the Fondation Louis Vuitton
The Louis Vuitton Foundation, called Fondation Louis Vuitton in French, is a museum of art and a cultural center that the LVMH group and its subsidiaries sponsor. It operates as a separate nonprofit organization in law. The Deconstructivist building, designed by the Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, stands beside the Jardin d'Acclimatation, in the part of the Bois de Boulogne that lies in Paris's 16th arrondissement, next to Neuilly-sur-Seine. President François Hollande attended the opening on October 20, 2014.
The glass Grand Palais and glass structures such as the Palmarium of 1893, built for the Jardin d'Acclimatation, inspired Gehry's design. Inside are 11 galleries of varied sizes across two stories, an auditorium with 350 seats on the lower-ground floor, and roof terraces on several levels for events and art installations. A bowling alley once stood on the site, and Gehry had to keep to its footprint and two-story volume, with anything taller made of glass. The glass building takes the shape of sailboat sails swelled by the wind.
Together the sails use 3,584 laminated glass panels, every one unique and curved to suit the architect's shapes. A white concrete reinforced with fibers, called Ductal, covers the gallery sections. More than 400 people contributed to a single digital 3D model of the project, hosted on the Web and shared among them. The collection includes works by Jeff Koons, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Gilbert & George.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 14 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 17 mm | 1:3,000 |

- Overlapping curved sails
- The roof is a cluster of overlapping curved shells with thin edges. Print friendly adapts these thin edges to your print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print.
- Fine panel lines on the shells
- Each shell is marked with fine panel lines. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the curves smooth, and a larger print keeps the lines readable.
- One piece with the ground
- The Fondation Louis Vuitton is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Fondation Louis Vuitton takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About this model
The Fondation Louis Vuitton is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
Common questions
Is there a Fondation Louis Vuitton STL I can download?
Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.
How big can I print it?
Any print size from 40 mm across. The Fondation Louis Vuitton grows with the print: about 14 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
Is it free?
Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
