12 m of the Little Red Lighthouse, 4 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Fine railings and a tiny finial
The lantern gallery has a thin railing and a small finial on top, and a fence of slim bars rings the base. Print friendly thickens these parts for your print scale; Full detail keeps them for bigger prints.
- A very small model
The lighthouse is a small landmark, so print size matters here. Choose a larger print size and a 0.12-0.16 mm layer height to keep the lantern and fence legible.
- One piece with the ground
The Little Red Lighthouse is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Little Red Lighthouse takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About the Little Red Lighthouse
Officially named Jeffrey's Hook Light, the Little Red Lighthouse is a compact lighthouse in Fort Washington Park, beside the Hudson River in Manhattan and under the George Washington Bridge. It is built on Jeffrey's Hook, a little spit of land that holds up the base of the bridge's eastern pier. It became notable through a 1942 children's book, with text by Hildegarde Swift and pictures by Lynd Ward.
It was first the North Hook Beacon, located on Sandy Hook, New Jersey, and remained there until it became obsolete in 1917. In 1921 the United States Lighthouse Board rebuilt it at its present spot, as one piece of an effort to upgrade Hudson River navigation aids. It first had a lamp running on batteries and a fog bell, and a part-time keeper looked after it.
Building of the George Washington Bridge, directly above, started in 1927, and after its completion in 1931 the light was regarded as obsolete. The Coast Guard shut the light off in 1948, planning an auction. Public protest, largely from children who loved the book, followed, and the Coast Guard signed the deed over to the city's parks department on July 23, 1951. The lighthouse entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and New York City designated it a landmark in 1991.
