Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

  1. Dome and drum

The large dome is a smooth curve that shows layer lines clearly. A layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm keeps it looking round, and a larger print keeps the drum detail below it.

  2. Slim columns and steps

The columned front and the wide stairs are fine, repeated features. Full detail keeps every column and is best for large prints; Print friendly adapts thin columns at small sizes.

  3. One piece with the ground

Low Memorial Library is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.

  4. Pick the detail for your nozzle

In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.

  5. Colors

Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Low Memorial Library takes the building color.

  6. File format

You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About Low Memorial Library

Low Memorial Library, nicknamed Low, sits in Upper Manhattan, in the middle of the Columbia University campus, close to 116th Street, in the block between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. Charles Follen McKim designed it for McKim, Mead & White, and construction ran until 1897. It was built as the university's central library, but since 1934 it has housed the central administrative offices. Seth Low, the university's president, paid $1 million for it and named it for his father, Abiel Abbot Low.

The plan is a Greek cross, and the building has four stories above a ground-level basement. Inside, an octagonal rotunda has a plaster dome in sky blue, with four Vermont granite columns along each of its sides. The library stacks could hold one-and-a-half million volumes. Three sets of stairs on the south side lead up to a colonnade, where a frieze describes the university's founding.

The steps in front, called the Steps or Low Steps, are a popular meeting area for students and link the northern and southern parts of the campus. They hold a sculpture of Alma Mater by Daniel Chester French. The centers of the stairs curve slightly upward so they do not look as if they sag, which makes the middle of each step stand 3.5 in (8.9 cm) higher than its ends.

About this model
