About MGM Grand Las Vegas

The MGM Grand Las Vegas is a hotel and casino in Nevada, on the Las Vegas Strip near its southern end, where Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard meet. Kirk Kerkorian developed it through his company, MGM Grand, Inc. Planning started in 1989, and Veldon Simpson was the architect. It opened on December 18, 1993, alongside a theme park called MGM Grand Adventures that stood on 33 acres (13 ha) to the northeast. The resort and the park cost $1 billion in total.

When it opened, the MGM Grand had 5,005 rooms, which by room count made it the world's largest hotel at that point. Its casino, at 15,930 square meters (171,500 sq ft), was also the world's largest when the resort opened. Most of the hotel stands 30 stories high, apart from a 14-story section that began life as the Marina Hotel, which opened in 1975. That older building was folded into the MGM Grand and became its West Wing.

The resort was themed mainly around The Wizard of Oz, the 1939 MGM film. The hotel's exterior is made of green glass panels, which were originally meant to evoke Emerald City. Much of the Oz theming was removed during a renovation that began in 1996. Among its entertainment venues is the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 1300 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale

200 mm 15 mm 1:6,500
256 mm 19 mm 1:5,078

Stepped dome and rooftop details
A stepped, domed roof and small rooftop details sit along the long main block. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print.
Slim central tower
A narrow tower rises above the main block near its center. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep its edges crisp, and printing slowly helps this tall, slim part.
One piece with the ground
MGM Grand Las Vegas is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. MGM Grand Las Vegas takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
