About One Manhattan West

At 395 Ninth Avenue on Manhattan's West Side, One Manhattan West is an office skyscraper with 67 stories, part of the Manhattan West development in New York City. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) designed it, and it was completed in 2019, following 3 Manhattan West as the development's second finished tower. Its height is 304 meters (996 ft), its plan is rectangular, and it offers 2.1 million square feet of floor area.

Three faces of the tower, the north, south and west, go straight up. The east face bulges outward as far as the 19th floor and then narrows evenly toward the roof. According to Kim Van Holsbeke, SOM's design director, the insulated glazing of the curtain wall was meant to give the impression of a building milled from stainless steel. All four corners have a rounded transition.

Part of the tower overhangs the railroad tracks leading into Penn Station, so a reinforced-concrete mechanical core carries most of the structural loads. Diagonal steel kickers 23 m (75 ft) long move loads from the core down to the footings. Brookfield Asset Management began acquiring land for the development in the 1980s, work on the tower started in April 2015, and it officially opened on October 30, 2019.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 86 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 108 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 138 mm 1:2,344

  • One Manhattan West model, East view East
  • One Manhattan West model, South view South
  • One Manhattan West model, West view West
Leaning east face
The east face bows out low down and then tapers inward, so the walls lean slightly. Printing slowly keeps the long vertical faces even.
Fine floor bands
Faint horizontal floor lines run up the whole height. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a larger print size keeps them distinct.
One piece with the ground
One Manhattan West is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. One Manhattan West takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

One Manhattan West is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a One Manhattan West STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. One Manhattan West grows with the print: about 86 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
