About the Plaza Hotel & Casino
The Plaza Hotel & Casino is in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, on the site of a former railroad station. A Spanish-style depot from 1906 was the first Las Vegas train station there. In 1940 Union Pacific replaced it with a Streamline Moderne station by H. L. Gogerty, and that station was torn down in 1970.
Upland Industries, the real estate division of Union Pacific, and the Scott Corp built the hotel on the station site. As the Union Plaza it opened on July 1, 1971, and was advertised as the world's largest casino. Its 504 rooms matched the Fremont Hotel, but its 66,000-square-foot casino floor was the biggest in Las Vegas. Until the Desert Wind train route was discontinued on May 10, 1997, an Amtrak station connected directly to the hotel, and it was the sole train station in the country to sit inside a casino.
Renovations shut the hotel on November 11, 2010; it officially reopened for business on September 1, 2011, and the project cost $35 million. The Plaza's glass dome holds Oscar's Steakhouse, which takes its name from Oscar Goodman, a former Mayor of Las Vegas. The North Tower carries three 21-story murals, the work of Shepard Fairey, D*Face and Faile. The hotel also appears under construction in Diamonds Are Forever, the 1971 James Bond film.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 23 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 29 mm | 1:3,000 |

- A busy podium roof
- The low roof between the towers is covered in small units and fine ridges. Print friendly adapts these to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle.
- Thin arches on the tower top
- Slender arched members rise above the shorter tower. Printing slowly and using layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm helps keep them intact.
- One piece with the ground
- The Plaza Hotel & Casino is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Plaza Hotel & Casino takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
