About Saint Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv

Kyiv's Saint Sophia Cathedral, in Ukraine, is a monument of Kyivan Rus' architecture and ranks among the city's best-known landmarks. Together with the Kyiv Cave Monastery complex, it was Ukraine's first heritage site on the World Heritage List. Beyond the main building, the complex has a bell tower, the House of Metropolitan and other supporting structures. The cathedral is a museum.

It was built as Kyiv's metropolitan cathedral, with a design that made room for the burial of Yaroslav the Wise and his descendants. Its foundation date is contested because the evidence is limited and contradictory. UNESCO and the Ukrainian government have accepted 1011, and the government officially celebrated the cathedral's 1000th anniversary during 2011.

Restoration began during the reign of Petro Mohyla, from 1633 to 1647. Influenced by western European ideas, Mohyla and his architects made the cathedral look, from the outside, like a Baroque church. A major renovation between 1690 and 1707, overseen by Metropolitan Varlaam Yasinsky with financial help from Hetman Ivan Mazepa, raised the galleries, added four new domes and rebuilt the tops of the towers in the Ukrainian Baroque style. A newly built bell tower with a dome went up in 1699, and another major restoration followed between 1843 and 1853.

A tall, separate bell tower
The bell tower stands apart from the cathedral and ends in a small onion dome with a thin cross. Print slowly with good cooling for the top, and use layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm to keep its open arches crisp.
Clusters of small domes
Several small domes crowd the cathedral roof. Print friendly adapts their thin tips to the print scale, while Full detail and a bigger print size keep them rounded.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Saint Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
