Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

  1. The spiral lantern

The lantern ends in a corkscrew spiral, the church's signature detail. Print slowly with good cooling, and use 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers to keep the spiral crisp.

  2. Star-shaped dome

The dome sits on a star-shaped rotunda with alternating curved and angular bays. Print friendly adapts the finest detail between them to the print scale.

  3. One piece with the ground

Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.

  4. Pick the detail for your nozzle

In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.

  5. Colors

Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza takes the building color.

  6. File format

You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza

Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza is a Catholic church in Rome, Italy, and Francesco Borromini designed it between 1642 and 1660. Many regard the building as a masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture. It sits behind a courtyard at number 40 on Corso del Rinascimento, and the State Archives of Rome occupies the complex. The site held a chapel serving the University of Rome's palace from the 14th century, and the church takes its dedication from Saint Ivo, patron of jurists.

Borromini worked with the palazzo already on the site. His plan echoes the star of David, understood then as the Star of Solomon and a sign of wisdom, and he joined the church's curved facade to the courtyard. The dome's corkscrew lantern was a new idea. A tall parapet above the facade leaves only the upper stages visible from the courtyard, and a spiral crowned by a cross finishes the lantern.

Inside, the rotunda combines separate shapes instead of blending them: a triangle whose three corners are cut off, with semicircles between its sides. Round sections have larger windows than the edges; the entrance lies in an edged section, and the altar faces it from a round one. Sunlight reaches the dome through an oculus in the perforated lantern. In the lantern roof sits a flying bee, emblem of the Barberini family that sponsored the work. Giovanni Battista Contini designed the main altar in 1684.
