11 mm tall on a 160 mm print
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Curved roofs and a tower
A church of this kind has curved shells and a separate tower, shapes that reward a larger print. Use 0.12–0.16 mm layers and moderate speed for clean surfaces.
- One piece with the ground
St. Mary's Cathedral, Tokyo is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. St. Mary's Cathedral, Tokyo takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About St. Mary's Cathedral, Tokyo
St. Mary's Cathedral serves as the seat of Tokyo's Roman Catholic archdiocese and stands in the Sekiguchi neighborhood of Bunkyo. It replaced a wooden Gothic cathedral of 1899, built for French missionary interests, that survived the 1923 Great Kantō Earthquake but was lost to air raids in World War II.
The archdiocese ran a competition in 1960 to rebuild for the 100th anniversary of Catholicism's return to Japan. Kenzō Tange's design was the only cruciform entry and used a thin-shell structure; it won. It also included Japanese elements, such as an entrance through a Lourdes grotto. Work ran from April 1963 to December 1964.
Eight hyperbolic parabolas open upward to form a cross of light, and a separate bell tower of reinforced concrete stands to the west. It rises 61.6 m (202 ft), and the cathedral's exterior is clad in stainless steel. The rhomboid ground plan becomes a cross as the building rises. An organ by the Italian firm Mascioni was installed in 2004.
