About Trinity-St. Paul's Episcopal Church, New Rochelle
Trinity-St. Paul's stands in New Rochelle, within Westchester County, in the state of New York. Its site is the corner of Division Street and Huguenot Street (the Boston Post Road), on the northwest side. The National Register of Historic Places added it in 2006. The parish traces back to the founding Huguenot French congregation of New Rochelle, whose largest group conformed to the liturgy of the Church of England in June 1709.
In 1762 King George III granted Trinity its first charter, and after the American Revolutionary War it turned into a Protestant Episcopal Church of America parish. This is the third church the conformist congregation erected. It followed a wooden church from 1823–1824. The cornerstone went down on August 13, 1862, worship began on September 13, 1863, and the tower was finished on November 30, 1864. Richard Upjohn & Son, known for Gothic Revival architecture, designed it.
The western side of the church gained a parish house in 1892; it uses the same granite and brownstone as the church. Architect Frederick Carles Merry designed it, and he is also the architect of the Main Street building of the New Rochelle Trust. Among the church's heirlooms is a silver chalice from Queen Anne of England, inscribed "Anne Regina", and many of its stained glass windows were crafted by Tiffany.
