About the United States Post Office, Far Rockaway
The Far Rockaway post office (US Post Office-Far Rockaway) is historic, and it stands in Queens County, New York. It was built in 1935. Eric Kebbon designed it while serving as consultant for the Supervising Architect's office, and it is one of six New York State post offices he designed. The National Register of Historic Places listed it in 1988.
The building has two stories of brick with limestone trim, resting on a low granite base, and its style is Colonial Revival. On the main facade, a centrally placed polygonal frontispiece carries a dome with rounded form; the dome takes its inspiration from Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. The building also has a grand entrance vestibule.
