About Vidhana Soudha

Vidhana Soudha, which means "Legislative House", is home to the bicameral legislature of Karnataka, with its Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. It stands in Bengaluru, India, and is built in the Neo-Dravidian style. India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, laid the foundation stone on July 13, 1951. Chief Minister Kengal Hanumanthaiah wanted it to serve the people and called it a "people's palace" to express its democratic character.

Two chief engineers, Muniappa and B. R. Manickam, designed it, with work starting in 1952 and ending in 1956. The Public Works Department carried out the project without private contractors, and more than 5,000 workers were employed, with 1,500 of them chisellers, masons or wood carvers. The design draws on several Indian sources: pillars take their cue from the Mysore Palace, and temple-style columns echo the Bhoganandishwara Temple. Elements tied to Chalukya, Hoysala and Vijayanagara traditions appear too. The jharokhas and audience balconies belong to Rajasthani architecture, and the Lion Capital of Ashoka tops the central dome.

The footprint runs approximately 700 feet north to south by 350 feet east to west, and the building stands 53.34 meters (175.0 ft) high. Its east-facing front facade has 12 granite columns, each 12 meters (40 ft) tall, a flight of 45 steps leads up to the porch, and the central dome is 18 meters (60 ft) across. Most of the building is granite from within Karnataka, with teakwood and sandalwood in the doors. Words on the entablature read "Government Work is God's Work".

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Domes and corner cupolas
The central dome and the cupolas at the corners carry thin finials. Print friendly adapts thin parts like these to your print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print with 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers.
Rows of fine columns
Long colonnades and window rows line the facades. A bigger print keeps these repeating details readable.
One piece with the ground
Vidhana Soudha is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Vidhana Soudha takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
