88 m of W New York Union Square, 25 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Tall tower with an ornate crown
The tall, narrow tower ends in a detailed crown of roof pieces. Print slowly, and use a layer height of 0.12 to 0.16 mm to keep that crown crisp; Print friendly adapts thin parts to the print scale.
- Fine facade lines
The walls are covered in a dense pattern of windows and ledges. A larger print size helps this pattern stay readable; Full detail keeps every modeled feature.
- One piece with the ground
W New York Union Square is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. W New York Union Square takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About W New York Union Square
Across from Union Square in Manhattan, at the northeast corner where Park Avenue South meets 17th Street, stands W New York Union Square. W Hotels runs it as a boutique hotel with 270 rooms on 21 stories. The building was first called the Germania Life Insurance Company Building. Joseph W. Yost and Albert D'Oench designed it, and it dates to 1911, in the Beaux-Arts style. Few major insurance "home office" buildings survive in New York City, and this is among them.
Germania Life Insurance Company first used the building as its headquarters. When the company became Guardian Life Insurance Company of America in 1917, the building took the Guardian name. A four-story annex on the east side, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, was completed in 1961. Guardian moved its offices out in 1999, and the hotel opened a year later.
The Beaux-Arts tower has 21 stories, with the 18th through 21st inside the mansard roof, and its height is 88 m (290 feet). Its north side has a light court, which gives it a U-shaped footprint. The facade is mostly gray Concord granite mixed with brick, with a red Numidian-granite water table and a red Spanish-tile mansard roof. The city designated it a landmark in 1988, and the National Register of Historic Places listing followed in 2001.
