20 mm tall on a 160 mm print
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- A smooth droplet shell
The shell curves without a break from the ground up to a rounded crown, with a lifting lip and a glazed curtain wall beneath it. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep that curve and the fine mullions smooth.
- The crown cap and lip
A lighter oval cap with its own joint ring sits on top, and the lip overhangs the glass. A bigger print holds the ring and the soffit under the lip better than a small one.
- One piece with the ground
The Bolshoy Ice Dome is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Bolshoy Ice Dome takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About the Bolshoy Ice Dome
The Bolshoy Ice Dome is an indoor arena for many sports in Olympic Park in Sochi, Russia. It opened in 2012 with 12,000 seats arranged in a bowl around the ice, and it was built mainly to stage the hockey competitions of the 2014 Winter Olympics, as the main arena for both the men's and women's tournaments. The Games over, HC Sochi, a KHL expansion team, took it as its home arena; concerts and other events have also been held.
Its exterior was meant to look like a frozen ice droplet, and it has drawn comparisons with a Fabergé egg, because the light-emitting diodes give it something of that object's jewel-encrusted surface. Andrey Ustinov, who headed the group of 20 architects and 70 engineers, confirmed that the building was intended as a blend of both. Most of the roof is silver, clad in aluminum panels, and 38,000 LED lights illuminate the outside at night. The roof doubles as a scoreboard too, showing the live score.
Construction began in 2009 and finished in 2012, at a cost of about US$180 million, though ITAR-TASS put the figure as high as $300 million. The firm Mostovik designed the arena. Its rink measures 60 by 30 m, in line with International Ice Hockey Federation specifications, and inside there are 12 dressing rooms, an entry tunnel large enough for vehicles and a practice rink. A concourse of 3,300 m2 (35,000 square feet) of glazing looks out towards the Caucasus Mountains.
About this model
The Bolshoy Ice Dome is one of more than 4,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
