About 15 Hudson Yards

15 Hudson Yards, originally called Tower D, is a residential tower on the West Side of Manhattan, completed in 2019. It is in Chelsea, near Hell's Kitchen and the Penn Station area, and belongs to the Hudson Yards project, which redevelops the West Side Yards of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Construction began on December 4, 2014. It topped out in February 2018, and its opening came on March 15, 2019.

The building holds 285 residential units. Diller Scofidio + Renfro was lead architect and Rockwell Group was lead interior architect. Straps run along the middle and upper parts of the tower and give it a more fluid look. The executive architect was Ismael Leyva Architects, P.C., and WSP was the lead structural engineer.

The 50th and 51st floors hold an amenity space of 3,700 m² (40,000 sq ft) with an aquatics center, a swimming pool 75 feet long, a spa, a fitness center, a yoga studio, a children's playroom, private dining suites, a screening room, a golf club lounge, wine storage and a business center. An open-air terrace called Skytop sits on top. At the base of the tower is The Shed, a cultural venue that opened on April 5, 2019, and the lobby has a large wooden installation by sculptor Joel Shapiro.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 79 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 98 mm 1:3,000

Scalloped crown
The top of the tower has a scalloped, clover-like outline. Print friendly adapts these small curves to your print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print with 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers.
A slim shaft
The tower is tall and slim beside its neighbors. Printing slowly, with good cooling, helps the upper floors hold their shape.
One piece with the ground
15 Hudson Yards is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. 15 Hudson Yards takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
