About 252 East 57th Street

252 East 57th Street is a modernist residential skyscraper with mixed uses, standing in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Rose Associates, Inc. and the World Wide Group were the developers, and construction began in 2013. The tower is one piece of the luxury residential corridor along 57th Street known as Billionaires' Row. It rises 217 meters (712 ft), and its condominiums begin on the 36th floor.

Roger Duffy of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the building, whose curved glass form takes its cue from the Aalto Vase, a Finnish design that Alvar Aalto created in 1936. Daniel Romauldez, an AD100 designer, did the interiors. The building was his first new development commission; before it he had designed private homes.

Beyond the tower, the complex also holds two new schools, 78,000 square feet of retail space and a Whole Foods Market. Amenities include automated parking, a swimming pool, a sauna, steam and ice rooms, and a private gated porte-cochère. Together these make it a mixed-use project, with homes, shops, a grocery store and schools on one site.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 59 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 74 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 95 mm 1:2,344

Curved top edge
The crown dips in a shallow curve instead of ending flat. Print slowly with good cooling, and layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep the curve crisp.
Irregular window grid
A patchwork of window and panel lines covers the faces. A larger print size keeps the pattern distinct, and Full detail suits it better than Print friendly.
One piece with the ground
252 East 57th Street is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. 252 East 57th Street takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
