About the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar

This Catholic church in Zaragoza, in Aragon, is a cathedral basilica named for Our Lady of the Pillar. It honors the Blessed Virgin Mary under that title, and it is reputedly the very first church dedicated to Mary. Local traditions trace its roots to an apparition of Mary to Saint James the Great, reported as the only apparition of Mary before her reputed Assumption. It numbers among Zaragoza's two minor basilicas and shares co-cathedral status with the nearby La Seo de Zaragoza.

It is a Baroque building, mostly built between 1681 and 1872. The Cabildo of Zaragoza later commissioned the architect Ventura Rodríguez, who gave the building its dimensions of 130 m long by 67 m wide, with eleven cupolas and four towers. The Holy Chapel, built by Rodríguez in 1754, holds the venerated image of the Virgin, and the domes around it carry frescoes by Francisco Goya. The wooden statue is 39 cm tall and stands on a column of jasper. Twelve large pillars hold up the vaults over the nave and aisles.

Fire damaged an earlier Romanesque church there in 1434, and a Gothic-style church followed in the 15th century. Three bombs fell on the church in the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), and none exploded. Mary's feast under this title falls on October 12, the same date as the Día de la Hispanidad. On each of his two visits, Pope John Paul II praised Our Lady of the Pillar as Mother of the Hispanic Peoples. Its status as a Bien de Interés Cultural dates from 1904.

Four slender towers
Four towers with tall, narrow openings and bulb-shaped caps rise at the corners. Print friendly adapts these thin parts to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print, printed slowly with good cooling.
A cluster of domes
The roof is covered in domes, with a larger one in the middle. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep their curves smooth.
One piece with the ground
The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
