About the Basilica of Saint-Denis

This Roman Catholic cathedral started out as a medieval abbey church. It lies in Saint-Denis, a commune in the suburbs north of Paris, France. The choir, finished in 1144, is widely seen as the first structure that brought together all the elements of Gothic architecture, and that gives the building singular importance, historically and architecturally.

The ground was first used as a Gallo-Roman burial place during the late Roman period. Saint Genevieve acquired land around the year 475 and erected Saint-Denys de la Chapelle, and in 636, on Dagobert I's orders, the remains of Denis of Paris were reinterred here; he is a patron saint of France. In the 12th century, Abbot Suger rebuilt parts of the church with innovative structural and decorative features and is said to have produced the first truly Gothic building. The next century, the nave and transepts were rebuilt by the master-builder Pierre de Montreuil in the Rayonnant Gothic style, then new.

The church grew into a pilgrimage site and a royal necropolis: it holds tombs of French kings, covering almost every king from the 10th century until Louis XVIII, in the 19th century. Coronations of the queens of France took place at Saint-Denis too. It was made a cathedral in 1966, when the Diocese of Saint-Denis was created.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Slim pinnacles and flying buttresses
Slender pinnacles and arched buttresses ring the nave and the rounded east end. Print friendly adapts thin parts like these to your print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print with 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers.
Rose windows and arcades
The tower and west front carry round windows and rows of small arches. These are fine surface details, so a bigger print keeps them easier to read.
One piece with the ground
The Basilica of Saint-Denis is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Basilica of Saint-Denis takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
