About Capital Gate

Capital Gate is a skyscraper in Abu Dhabi, which also goes by the name Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi. It stands over 160 meters (520 ft) tall and has 35 stories. Its usable office space exceeds 16,000 square meters, about 170,000 sq ft. The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company owns it and developed it, and it anchors Capital Centre as its focal point.

Capital Gate was designed to tilt 18° west, over three times the inclination of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Guinness World Records recognized it in June 2010 as the "farthest manmade leaning building" in the world. RMJM designed it. Construction was completed in 2011, and the opening took place on December 21, 2011.

Because the tower leans, two diagrids were needed: one on the outside giving the tower its shape, and one inside connected to the central core. The outer diagrid has 720 sections of varying shapes. The foundation is 490 pilings drilled 30 meters (98 ft) deep. The Andaz Hotel occupies floors 18 through 33.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale

Leaning tower, base to top
The whole tower tilts, so the upper floors overhang the base. Print it slowly with good cooling, and try Print friendly first; at larger sizes Full detail keeps the diagrid pattern on the facade.
One piece with the ground
Capital Gate is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Capital Gate takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Capital Gate is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a Capital Gate STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Capital Gate grows with the print: about 43 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
