About the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque stands in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. It is the largest mosque in that country and a key site of worship for daily Islamic prayers. The project began under the late president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose aim was a structure that would unite the different cultures of the Islamic world with the architectural and artistic values of both past and present. After his death in 2004 he was laid to rest in the mosque courtyard. A smaller replica of the mosque is in Surakarta, Indonesia.

Construction took place between 1994 and 2007, with the inauguration in December 2007. The complex measures approximately 290 m by 420 m (950 ft by 1,380 ft) and takes up more than 12 hectares (30 acres), not including landscaping outside or vehicle parking. Its main axis sits turned about 12° south of true west, which points it toward the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Among its features are 82 domes and more than 1,000 columns. Four minarets rise about 107 m (351 ft) from the four corners of the courtyard, whose floral design spans some 17,000 m2 (or 180,000 sq ft) and is regarded as the world's largest example of marble mosaic. The Syrian architect Youssef Abdelke managed the design. The archways are described as quintessentially Moorish and the minarets as classically Arab. The mosque can accommodate over 40,100 worshippers.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Tall, thin minarets
The minarets are tall and slender and end in fine tips. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on a larger print. Print slowly with good cooling.
Rows of tiny domes and columns
Small domes and slim columns line the courtyard arcades. A larger print size and 0.12–0.16 mm layers keep these details crisp.
One piece with the ground
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
