About Amman

Amman is Jordan's capital, its largest city, and the hub of the country's economy, politics and culture. It is Jordan's primate city, the biggest city in the Levant, seventh among Arab cities by population, and its metropolitan area ranks eighth in the Middle East. It began on seven hills and has spread over 19 hills grouped into 22 areas under the Greater Amman Municipality; district names come from either a hill, jabal, or a valley, wadi. East Amman holds the historic sites, while West Amman is newer and serves as the economic center.

Settlement reaches back to the eighth millennium BC at 'Ain Ghazal; in the Iron Age the city was Rabat Aman, capital of the Ammonite Kingdom, and in the third century BC the Greeks took it and gave it the name Philadelphia. It was largely abandoned under Ottoman rule until Circassian settlers were brought in 1878, and it grew after the Hejaz Railway arrived and its first municipal council formed in 1909. It expanded fast once it became Transjordan's capital in 1921. Residential buildings are capped at four stories above street level, faced in limestone or sandstone of white or beige, with balconies on every floor but the ground one.

Common questions

Are these Amman landmark models free?

Yes. All 2 models on this page are free. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.

Can I download Amman landmark STL files?

Mini Skyline builds each file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How tall do the Amman landmarks print?

On the default 160 mm print they stand about 13 mm tall. Each landmark grows with the print size, and Make this print opens the generator with its area already selected. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
