About the Commerzbank Tower

Commerzbank Tower is a 56-story skyscraper in Frankfurt, Germany, in its banking district. Its roof is at 259 m (850 ft), and the antenna spire on top brings the total to 300.1 m (985 ft), which makes it the tallest building in Germany. Foster & Partners designed it, with Arup and Krebs & Kiefer as structural engineers. Work started in 1994 and lasted three years. The office space totals 121,000 m2 (1,300,000 square feet) and serves as the headquarters of the Commerzbank.

Plans for the tower came together in the early 1990s, and the Green Party, which governed Frankfurt in coalition with the Social Democrats, urged the bank to aim for a "green" skyscraper. It was the first so-called ecological skyscraper in the world. The tower is a rounded equilateral triangle 60 m (197 ft) wide, with a central triangular atrium that opens to one of the three sides at nine levels, forming large sky gardens. To avoid supporting columns in those gardens, builders used steel instead of the conventional, cheaper concrete; no skyscraper in Germany had previously used steel as its main material.

Other skyscrapers stand in its immediate neighborhood, among them the Gallileo, the Japan Center, the Silberturm, the Main Tower and the Eurotower, in the area known as Bankenviertel, Frankfurt's central business district. At night, a yellow lighting scheme designed by Thomas Ende, winner of a competition, lights the tower. It is only two meters taller than the Messeturm, also in Frankfurt, which held the title of Europe's tallest building until this tower was built.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 81 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 102 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 130 mm 1:2,344

A thin antenna spire
A slim lattice mast tops the tower. Print friendly adapts it to a printable thickness; Full detail keeps its fineness on a larger print. Print slowly with good cooling.
Open bands at several levels
Open gaps break up the faces of the tower at several levels. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep the floor edges crisp, and a larger print size gives those gaps more room.
One piece with the ground
The Commerzbank Tower is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Commerzbank Tower takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

The Commerzbank Tower is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a Commerzbank Tower STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The Commerzbank Tower grows with the print: about 81 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
