About Djamaa el Djazaïr
Djamaa el Djazaïr, also called the Great Mosque of Algiers, stands in Algeria's capital, in the Mohammadia area of the Dar El Beïda District, on a site of 27.75 hectares (68.6 acres) that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. It opened in April 2019. Its minaret, 265 m (869 ft) high, is the world's tallest, and the mosque ranks as the world's third-largest, behind the Great Mosque of Mecca and Medina's Al-Masjid an-Nabawi.
A German consortium formed by Krebs und Kiefer together with KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten won the international architectural competition in January 2008, and the signed contract followed in July 2008. China State Construction Engineering, a Chinese company, carried out the building work, with the first concrete foundation casting on August 16, 2012. Construction lasted seven years. The Algerian state financed the project, and the official cost was $898 million. The architecture rests on square geometry that combines modern and traditional styles.
The prayer hall covers 22,000 square meters (240,000 sq ft). Above it rises a dome 50 m (160 ft) across and 70 m (230 ft) high, and the hall is carried by 618 octagonal columns. Laser engraving produced 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) of calligraphy, and the design allows the mosque to withstand a quake of magnitude 9.0. The minaret holds office space, so it also qualifies as a building, and an observation deck sits atop it. The complex also has a Quran school, a library and a museum of Islamic art.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 71 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 89 mm | 1:3,000 |

- A very tall, slender tower
- The model is a tall square shaft on a small base. Print slowly with good cooling, and choose a larger print size to make the shaft sturdier.
- Open grid near the top
- The upper stages are open grid cages. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps every bar on a larger print, ideally with 0.12–0.16 mm layers.
- One piece with the ground
- Djamaa el Djazaïr is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Djamaa el Djazaïr takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions
Is there a Djamaa el Djazaïr STL I can download?
