About Hobart Town Hall

Hobart Town Hall, a sandstone landmark, is where the City of Hobart council is based. It holds council meetings, and its auditorium can be hired by the public. Public tours run from time to time, showing the ornate Victorian auditorium and the organ, played since 1870.

Building began in 1864, when the foundation stone was laid on April 14, a public holiday marked by a parade. Completion came in September 1866, celebrated with a further public holiday and a gala ball. Henry Hunter's design took some inspiration from the Palazzo Farnese in Rome. The hall and Franklin Square share the site of the old government house.

Its original occupants were the council chambers, the municipal court, police offices and the State Library of Tasmania, and these stayed for nearly fifty years. The organ, made by J. W. Walker of London, was opened on March 17, 1870, and is reckoned the second finest in Australia. By 1925 the portico had degraded until it was declared unsafe, requiring major restoration.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Portico, chimneys and roof details
The portico columns, small chimneys and rooftop details are the finest parts. Print friendly merges the smallest; Full detail keeps them at larger print sizes and a finer layer height.
One piece with the ground
Hobart Town Hall is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Hobart Town Hall takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
