About the New England Air Museum Hangars

The New England Air Museum is an aerospace museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, beside Bradley International Airport. Three hangars display its collection, with further hangars for storage and restoration. The aircraft run from early flying machines up to supersonic jets, alongside engines and other flight-related equipment. Exhibits cover Sikorsky Aircraft's history, flight simulators that run on computers, early French aviation and the 58th Bombardment Wing Memorial, whose centerpiece is a restored B-29A.

Employees of Pratt & Whitney began the museum's story by founding the Connecticut Aeronautical Historical Association to rescue a biplane built by Louis Bancroft. The plane was later lost to a fire, but the group kept going. An inflatable dome, put up in 1967, served as its first display building. On October 2, 1979, a tornado destroyed the outdoor site of what was then the Bradley Air Museum, along Route 75, and the first of the current buildings was constructed in 1981. A name change followed in 1984, to reflect a broader mission and to end confusion about whether the airport ran the museum.

Later additions were a restoration hangar (1989), a storage building (1991), a military hangar (1992), a 58th Bomb Wing Hangar (2003) and a storage hangar (2010). A renovation in 2017 added a mezzanine to two of the hangars for views of the aircraft from above, along with new heating and air conditioning and LED lighting.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 3 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 4 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 5 mm 1:2,344

Long low roofs
The hangars are long and low, with ribbed gabled roofs. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep the roof ribs crisp, and a larger print size keeps them from blurring.
Small model, fine detail
The buildings are small in the print, with large door openings on the ends. Use Full detail with a fine nozzle to keep the door openings and roof lines.
One piece with the ground
The New England Air Museum Hangars is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The New England Air Museum Hangars takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a New England Air Museum Hangars STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The New England Air Museum Hangars grows with the print: about 3 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
