About The Writer's Block

The Writer's Block, in downtown Las Vegas, is an independent bookshop and coffee shop that also teaches literacy. Its bookstore has drawn recommendations from several publications and authors, such as Tayari Jones, Alta Journal and the Los Angeles Times, and in 2024 it was chosen Best Bookstore in Las Vegas Weekly's Best of Vegas list.

Scott Seeley, a co-founder of 826NYC, and Drew Cohen planned an independent bookstore for downtown Las Vegas. Entrepreneur Jennifer 8. Lee connected them with Tony Hsieh, who founded Zappos, and whose Downtown Project, a $350 million initiative to revitalize downtown, helped partially fund the store. It opened in 2014 at 509 Fremont Street, a spot once held by a tattoo parlor. Behind the shop front was Codex, the education space, which hosted free workshops on writing for children aged 5 to 18.

In 2019 the store moved to the Lucy, an art center newly created by the philanthropist Beverly Rogers, at 6th Street and Bonneville Avenue. It devotes 3,000 square feet to selling books, plus 800 more to events. Along with over 20,000 books it has a coffee shop, and regular events include book clubs, signings with authors and creative writing workshops.

Small roof vents
Four small vents sit on the flat roof. Print friendly adapts such small details to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on a larger print.
A small model
The building is only three stories tall. A layer height of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keeps the window lines crisp.
One piece with the ground
The Writer's Block is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Writer's Block takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a The Writer's Block STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The Writer's Block grows with the print: about 3 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
