About Turku Castle

Turku Castle, a medieval building in the Finnish city of Turku, stands beside the Aura River. Construction began around the year 1280, when Swedes stationed in the region built it as a fortress and outpost for the military. Together with Turku Cathedral, it is one of the oldest buildings in use in Finland, and it is the largest medieval building in the country that survives.

The castle has a medieval keep and a Renaissance bailey. The keep is a square fort with a pair of square gateway towers, and it was finished in the early 15th century. The bailey was started in the late 15th century and completed in the 16th, and it has several turrets. In the Middle Ages a moat joined the castle to the Aura River, which made it basically an island.

For centuries the castle was a bastion and a seat of administration for Finland's historical region, until the early 19th century. It reached its height around the mid-16th century under Duke John and Catherine Jagellon, who added a Renaissance floor and a hall for the king and queen. A great fire in 1614 consumed almost all of the wooden structures in the castle's old parts. From the 18th century to the end of the 19th it served as a prison, and it was fully restored in 1987.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 11 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 14 mm 1:3,000

Steep roofs and small turrets
The castle has steep roofs, small pointed turrets and a round tower with a conical roof. Print friendly adapts small turrets to the print scale; Full detail keeps them for larger prints or a fine nozzle.
Tiny windows
Many tiny windows dot the walls. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a larger print size keeps them readable.
One piece with the ground
Turku Castle is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Turku Castle takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Turku Castle is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a Turku Castle STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Turku Castle grows with the print: about 11 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
