About Turku Cathedral

Turku Cathedral is Finland's only medieval basilica, and the Mother Church of the country's Evangelical Lutheran Church. It stands in the heart of Turku, beside the Old Great Square and the river Aura. It serves the Lutheran Archdiocese of Turku as its central church, and the archbishop has his seat there. The cathedral is considered Finland's most important religious building, and it ranks among the most recognizable symbols of the city.

Bishop Magnus I consecrated the cathedral on June 17, 1300, and it was dedicated that year as Finland's main cathedral. Builders enlarged it a good deal over the 14th and 15th centuries, working mainly in stone, and when the Middle Ages ended it had 42 side chapels in all. Late in the 15th century the roof vaults were raised to a height of 24 meters. The 1827 Great Fire of Turku badly damaged the cathedral, and it was rebuilt to a great extent afterward. The tower's spire, built after the fire, reaches 101 meters above sea level.

Most of the interior dates from the restoration of the 1830s. Fredrik Westin painted the altarpiece, which depicts the Transfiguration of Jesus, in 1836. Carl Ludvig Engel designed the reredos and the pulpit, and the court painter Robert Wilhelm Ekman made the Romantic-style frescoes on the walls and roof of the chancel. The sound of the cathedral's bells chiming at noon is broadcast on national radio, and the cathedral plays a central part in Finland's annual Christmas celebrations.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 24 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 30 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 38 mm 1:2,344

Tall tower and spire
The tower and its steep spire are the tallest, thinnest part of the model. Print slowly with good cooling, and use layers of 0.12–0.16 mm to keep the spire crisp.
Gables and small pointed roofs
Small gabled and pointed roofs cluster around the long nave. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale, while Full detail keeps them on a larger print.
One piece with the ground
Turku Cathedral is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Turku Cathedral takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Turku Cathedral STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Turku Cathedral grows with the print: about 24 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
