About 1251 Avenue of the Americas
1251 Avenue of the Americas, which used to be called the Exxon Building, is a skyscraper that stands between 49th and 50th Streets on Sixth Avenue (also called Avenue of the Americas) in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Built in the International Style, it looks like a plain cuboid with no ornamentation. The facade alternates strips of glass with strips of limestone, all narrow and vertical, and the glass stripes are made of windows and opaque spandrels that form continuous areas, which machines sliding down the facade wash.
The tower belongs to the later expansion of Rockefeller Center in the 1960s and 1970s, whose buildings were nicknamed the "XYZ Buildings". Wallace Harrison, the Rockefeller family's architect at Harrison & Abramovitz, first drew up the plans in 1963. As the "X" Building it is the tallest of the three, at 229 m (750 ft) with 54 stories, and it was the first one completed, in 1971. Within all of Rockefeller Center, only 30 Rockefeller Plaza is taller.
On the western side, a seven-floor base wraps around part of the tower, and a sunken plaza facing Sixth Avenue holds a large pool in two tiers, plus fountains. The plaza also has a bronze statue by John Seward Johnson II titled Out to Lunch. A replica of a Pablo Picasso tapestry made for the ballet Mercure, authorized by the artist, hangs in the atrium. Buildings over 500 feet tall flank the tower on all sides, so it is hard to see from more than a few blocks away.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

- Fine vertical stripes
- The facade is a regular pattern of narrow vertical stripes. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep the lines crisp, and Print friendly may merge the finest stripes on a small print.
- A tall, plain block
- The tower rises as a tall rectangular block with a flat top. Print slowly with good cooling to keep the upper walls clean, and a larger print size makes the block sturdier.
- One piece with the ground
- 1251 Avenue of the Americas is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. 1251 Avenue of the Americas takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
