About 25 Water Street (SoMA)
Where Water Street meets Broad Street in Manhattan's Financial District, 25 Water Street, which is also called 4 New York Plaza, adjoins 125 Broad Street on its south side and Vietnam Veterans Plaza on the east. Construction began in 1967 and finished in 1969, and offices occupied the building from 1969 until 2022. Carson, Lundin & Shaw designed it in the Brutalist style, and its first tenants arrived just 26 months after design began.
It was designed as an operations center for the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company, which processed its banking work there, including the collecting and recording of checks. To cool 1960s mainframe computers more efficiently, the 3rd to 15th floors had relatively few narrow windows, while the 2nd floor and the top seven floors had more. Its reddish-brown brick was picked to echo Dutch-era New Amsterdam buildings like the Stadt Huys Site. It received an architectural award in its era.
JPMorgan Chase owned it by the 1990s, and the bank sold it in December 2009 to buyers named Capstone Equities and Harbor Group International. The New York Daily News moved in during June 2011. Flooding from Superstorm Sandy in 2012 hit it hard, and the biggest tenants stayed away until late 2013. The Daily News closed its newsroom there in 2020, and in 2023 a process of converting the building to apartments began.

- Stepped upper blocks
- The upper part steps back in blocks, with small boxes on top. Print friendly adapts the small ones to the print scale; Full detail keeps every one.
- Taller towers close by
- Taller buildings stand close around the block in the model. A larger print size keeps the narrow gaps between them readable.
- One piece with the ground
- 25 Water Street (SoMA) is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. 25 Water Street (SoMA) takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
