About 53W53

53 West 53, also called 53W53 and formerly Tower Verre, is a supertall skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, with its address at 53 West 53rd Street beside the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The developers were the real estate firms Pontiac Land Group and Hines, and the French architect Jean Nouvel designed it. It reaches 320 meters (1,050 ft) and has 77 stories, although its top story is labeled 87 and some floor numbers are left out.

The facade sits inside a concrete diagrid that carries the structure. The north and south faces slope inward toward five spires of different heights. The building mixes uses: the base holds a private restaurant and gallery space for MoMA, while the residential part holds 145 condominiums with interiors by Thierry Despont. Floors 12 to 16 hold amenity spaces, and floors 46 and 47 have a lounge.

The first plans, for Tower Verre at 380 meters (1,250 ft) tall, were announced in 2007 together with an expansion of MoMA. After protests about the original height, the design was cut by 61 m (200 ft) in 2009. Financing was hard to secure, and work began in late 2014. The tower reached its top in mid-2018 and was officially finished in early 2020.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 86 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 107 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 137 mm 1:2,344

  • 53W53 model, East view East
  • 53W53 model, South view South
  • 53W53 model, West view West
Five spires at the top
The tower ends in a stepped row of pointed tops of different heights. Print slowly with good cooling, and use Print friendly to adapt the thin tips to the print scale.
Diagonal grid on sloping faces
The diagonal pattern across the leaning north and south faces is fine surface detail. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep it crisp, and Full detail suits a larger print.
One piece with the ground
53W53 is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. 53W53 takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a 53W53 STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. 53W53 grows with the print: about 86 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
