About 550 Madison Avenue
550 Madison Avenue, formerly the AT&T Building, Sony Tower and Sony Plaza, is a postmodern skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, on the Madison Avenue block from 55th Street to 56th Street. Philip Johnson and John Burgee designed it with associate architect Simmons Architects. The 37-story office tower is 197 m (647 ft) tall, and its facade is made of pink granite. AT&T Corp. had it built as its headquarters, and it was completed in 1984.
A recessed entrance arch 35 m (116 ft) high faces Madison Avenue, and a broken pediment pierced by a round opening sits at the top of the tower. The facade has three horizontal sections like the parts of a column: base, shaft and capital. The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission notes that it is sometimes called the first postmodern skyscraper in the world. Opinion of the design has been mixed since it was announced in March 1978.
After the 1982 breakup of the Bell System, AT&T never occupied the whole building. Sony leased it in 1991 and later became its owner, buying it from AT&T in 2002. The Chetrit Group acquired it from Sony in 2013, and the Olayan Group bought it in 2016. The Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the exterior a landmark in 2018.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

- Notched roof peak
- The roof peaks in a notch at the top. Print friendly keeps it from vanishing at a small size; Full detail keeps it sharp on a larger print.
- Fine facade lines
- Fine vertical lines and a darker band run near the top of the tower. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep them crisp.
- One piece with the ground
- 550 Madison Avenue is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. 550 Madison Avenue takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
