About the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building
This nineteen-story high-rise office building is at 163 West 125th Street, where it meets Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City. It was first named the Harlem State Office Building. The name honors Powell, the first African-American elected from New York to Congress. It overtook the nearby Hotel Theresa as the tallest building in Harlem.
Governor Nelson Rockefeller proposed the building in 1966 as the first step in a plan to make Harlem a "truly viable community". In 1967, ground was broken as a Corn Exchange Bank building came down. Work halted in 1969 after demonstrators objected to the racial makeup of the workforce and to the facility's intended purpose, and it resumed by mid-1970 once the dispute was settled. It was finished in 1973 and renamed in 1983, after Powell, who had died in 1972.
The African-American architecture firm Ifill Johnson Hanchard designed it in the Brutalist style, shaped like an African mask. Over the years, critics have called it a "killer building" of 1960s urban renewal that "disfigured" the neighborhood, and an example of mediocre government architecture, while others have embraced it as a focus for community efforts in future development battles.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

- Flared supports at the base
- The tower stands on thick, flared supports at its corners. Print friendly keeps them solid, and a larger print size keeps their outline clearer.
- Vertical ribs and stepped crown
- Fine vertical ribs run up the sides and the roofline steps in. A layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm keeps these lines crisp.
- One piece with the ground
- The Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
