About the Adams Express Building

The Adams Express Building is found at 61 Broadway in Manhattan's Financial District, with more frontage along Trinity Place. The company hired architect Francis Kimball, who designed a tower of 32 stories for it. Work started in 1912, and on completion in 1914 only six structures in Manhattan stood taller.

The structure uses 3,300 tons of steel, and its terracotta ornament, of the architectural kind, covers more than a million square feet. The New York Times called the style "Florentine" on the lower floors, under the fifth, and "severely simple" higher up, while the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission classed the architecture as palazzo. Critics worried about its shadow, and one complaint cited a shadow of 875 feet. The 1916 Zoning Resolution later required setbacks, but construction had come before those rules.

The building lost 300 windows in the 1916 Black Tom explosion. In 1988, after Metropolitan Life Insurance Company bought it, an engineer found goldfish swimming in a pool beneath the basement heating system. An entrance from the building to the Wall Street subway station, built beneath Broadway, was later closed.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 37 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 47 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 60 mm 1:2,344

Dense window grid
The facade is a tight grid of window bays. A layer height of 0.12-0.16 mm and a larger print size keep the grid readable; Print friendly simplifies the finest bays.
One piece with the ground
The Adams Express Building is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Adams Express Building takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there an Adams Express Building STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The Adams Express Building grows with the print: about 37 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
