About the Hall of Fame for Great Americans

BCC (Bronx Community College), in the Bronx, has an outdoor sculpture gallery on its grounds: Hall of Fame for Great Americans. Stanford White designed it, and it went up in 1901 for NYU (New York University) on its University Heights campus, making it the country's first hall of fame. The philanthropist Helen Gould gave funds for it in 1900, and the formal dedication took place on May 30, 1901.

The structure is an open-air loggia lined with colonnades, designed in the neoclassical style, and it measures 630 feet (190 m) from end to end. The first section was 500 feet (150 m) long, and a 130-foot (40 m) annex was added later. The parapets are Massachusetts granite, the pedestals and columns are Indiana limestone, the loggia ceiling is Guastavino tile, and the sloped roof is clad in red Spanish tile.

The hall commemorates 102 prominent Americans, chosen by a board of electors and sorted into fifteen categories. Its niches hold plaques designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and 96 bronze portrait busts. The first bust went up in 1907. BCC took the hall over when NYU sold the Bronx campus in 1973 to City University of New York, and honorees were last elected in 1976.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 8 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 9 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 12 mm 1:2,344

Rows of slim columns
The colonnade is a long run of thin columns and pedestals, with small busts on top. "Print friendly" adapts the slimmest of these to the print scale; "Full detail" keeps them, which suits a larger print.
Long curve and fine roof tiles
The curved roof carries closely spaced tile lines. A layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm keeps them distinct, and a larger print keeps the arc from looking flat.
One piece with the ground
The Hall of Fame for Great Americans is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Hall of Fame for Great Americans takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
